  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1-1/2 pounds bulk Italian sausage
  • 6 to 8 oz. Mozerella cheese, sliced
  • 4 cups fresh arugula
  • 1 to 2 cups pizza sauce (jarred or homemade)
  • Pepperoni, tomato slices, onion slices, etc.
  • 4 ciabatta rolls
  1. First, mix the olive oil with the garlic and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Make patties with bulk Italian sausage. We used sweet  - and make 'em thick!

  3. Next slice up the cheese, tomatoes, and other condiments. Brush the rolls with the garlic oil.

  4. Grill the patties on medium heat.

  5. About half way through, put the buns on the grill shelf and flip the patties.

  6. About ten minutes before they are done, lay a couple slices of cheese on the top. Continue to grill for about five minutes.  If you want to add pepperoni, this is a good time to do it. It will sit in the melted cheese and have wonderfully crispy edges.

  7. In the mean time, place the sauce in a skillet and bring it to a simmer. Put the cooked patties in and simmer together for about 3 to 5 minutes.

  8. Build the burger by spreading each bun with some pizza sauce, top with the cheesed up patty, some arugula and any other topping that you think would be wonderful - like pepperoncinis, fresh tomato slices, olives and/or onions. Put the top on and take a bite!

  9. Pizza on a bun with no heat in the kitchen!
