It’s Meatless Monday! With the cost of meat going higher and higher, we, like many other folks, are looking for some delicious, meatless options. To help with this quest, every Monday we’ll post a meatless meal recipe. And we’re asking you to share some of your great ideas. So it’s a recipe AND a party!! Ready to get cooking?
Tofu is under-rated! So here is a great tofu shawarma that is cost effective and delicious! Even shawarma can be meatless!
Here’s How to Do it:
First –
mix all the ingredients for the marinade and whisk to fully blend.
Next, cut the tofu into strips and place them in a deep container with a lid. You can pour the marinade over the top, or coat them in the container.
Make sure every piece is coated and refrigerate it for 8 hours or over night.
You can make the sauce the night before too. It gives the flavors a chance to meld. Whisk all the ingredients together, cover and refrigerate. Bring it out a couple hours before serving to it comes to room temperature.
And now it’s time to cook – Put some olive oil in a grill pan and heat. When the oil is hot, reduce the heat to medium-high
and sear the tofu strips on all sides-cook it long enough for it to be browned.
While its cooking, cut up the condiments.
And finally, serve the tofu in warm flat bread or pitas.
Add tomatoes, sliced onions
and shredded lettuce. Top with the sauce and enjoy!!
I can’t believe how good this was!! I ate the leftover tofu as a snack.
