Kids Project – Making Butter

Need something for the kids to do on Thanksgiving?  While you’re busy prepping all the food, give them a jar to make their own butter.  It’s pretty simple and pretty fun!

What you need:

  • 1 small baby food jar per child
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream per child
  • Small pinch of salt (optional)

How to Do it:

Put the cream in the baby food jar with the salt.

Allow each child to shake, shake, shake – and shake come more!  It takes about 20 minutes for the butter to form.

Open the jar and there you have it!  Homemade butter!

    Really? That easy? I so need to try this (with or without my kids)!
    Does it work in a plastic container too? Just because I’m not sure glass containers would last very much in my kids’ hands will all that shaking…
