It’s National Pickle Day!

Today is National Pickle Day, a day to celebrate those brined wonders we all love to eat! It was created in 1949 and encouraged by the Pickle Packers Association.

The term, pickle, is from the Dutch word for brine – pekel. Here in the U.S. it usually refers to a pickled cucumber. But there are so many other ways to eat a pickle!

And here are a few ways to eat a pickle:

Let’s start with the classic pickled cucumber. You don’t need a lot of equipment. Try these easy and delicious Refrigerator Pickles [6]!

Did you know you can fry a pickle [7]? Oh yes you can and they are so good!! Great with a cold beer!

Pickled onions [8] make a great addition to any sandwich, especially barbecue. And they are so easy to make!

The ultimate pub snack, pickled eggs [9]! So easy to make, but hard to wait! These guys have to sit in the brine for a couple of weeks. But they are so worth it!

Here’s one of my favorites. Super easy to make and even easier to eat! I make a lot of this one! Asian pickled cucumbers [10] – spicy or not, you’re choice!

You can pickle fruit too! Strawberries are great. Here’s one to use on the watermelon rind [11] that usually goes to waste.

So what are you waiting for? Start your brine and get pickling!!
