National Cocoa Day – Lavender Cocoa

Did you know there’s a difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa? Here in the U.S. we tend to use the terms interchangeably, but there is a difference! Hot chocolate is literally drinking chocolate – shavings of chocolate melted into cocoa butter or simply melted and sipped. Hot cocoa, on the other hand, is made with cocoa powder, milk or water, and sugar.

So let’s celebrate the day with a little twist on the traditional! Instead of sugar, how about some lavender syrup [7]?

Here’s How to Do it:

This makes one cup –

Stir the milk, lavender syrup [7] (you can make your own syrup by following the link here [7], or check out Amazon below – they have it ready made) and cocoa powder into a small saucepan. Simmer until it’s warm (or hot if you like it like me).

Pour into a warmed cup (fill with hot water and let it sit). Top with whipped cream and some sprinkles of the powder.

Enjoy by the fire on the cold December day.
