Sticking with the apple theme (I bought a LOT of honey crisp apples at the apple farm), I decided to play with an apple crisp recipe. Hubby doesn’t usually like crisps or cobblers, but he really liked this one!!
So here it is…
What you need:
- 4 large apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup of melted butter
- ¼ cup of water
Topping
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup rolled oats
- ¼ cup white sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Generous pinch of salt
- ¼ cup turbinado (raw) sugar
- 6 Tablespoons cold butter cut into chunks
How to Do it:
Mix the apples and the next five ingredients together in a large bowl.
Spray the inside of a casserole dish with cooking spray and put the apple mixture into it. It should be filled almost to the top.
Mix the remaining ingredients, except for the raw sugar and butter,
and spread it evenly over the top of the apples. Next, sprinkle the raw sugar over the top and place the butter chunks on top of that.
Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour, until the apples are bubbling and the top is golden brown.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
